24- ப்ரஹ்லாத சரித்திரம்

24-1

ஸ்ரீ ஹரியானவர் , ஹிரண்யாக்ஷனை வதம் செய்தபோது, அவனுடைய சகோதரன் ,ஹிரண்யகசிபு சோகத்தாலும் கோபத்தாலும் மனம் கொந்தளித்து, தேவர்களின் பகைவர்களான அசுரர்களின் அவையில், ஹரியை கொன்றே தீருவேன் என்று சூளுரைத்தான்.

அதை நிறைவேற்ற பிரம்ம தேவரை நினைத்து கடும் தவம் செய்தான். அவர் நேரில் தோன்றியபோது , 'தேவர், மனிதர், அல்லது விலங்குகள் எவையாலும் தனது மரணம் ஏற்படக்கூடாது ' என்று வரம் கோரி பெற்றான்.

அந்த அகந்தையில், ஜீவன்கள் அனைத்தயும் துன்புறுத்தி, தேவ லோகத்தையும் கைப்பற்றிக்கொண்டான்.

ஸ்ரீ ஹரியைக் கொல்ல ,அவரை எங்கெங்கும் தேடி அலைந்தான்.

ஸ்ரீ ஹரி அந்த அசுரனின் மனதிற்குள்ளேயே சூக்ஷ்ம உருவம் கொண்டு இருந்தததை அறியாமல் அவன் எவ்வளவு தேடியும், ஹரியைக் காண முடியவில்லை. இதனால், அவன் செருக்குற்று ஸ்ரீ ஹரி தன்னைக் கண்டு பயந்து ஓடி ஒளிந்துவிட்டார் என்று கர்ஜனை செய்து, மேலும் மேலும் கொடுமைகள் புரிந்தான்.

இந்த ஹிரண்யகசிபு என்ற அசுரனுக்கு , பிரஹலாதன் புதல்வனாகப் பிறந்தான். தனது தாயின் கருவில் இருந்தபோதே, அவன் நாரதமுனியின் மூலமாக ,பக்தி யோக மார்க்கத்தின் மகிமையை உபதேசம் பெற்றான்.

பிறப்பால் அவன் அசுரனாக இருந்தாலும், குழந்தைப் பருவத்தில் இருந்தே அவன் , மிகவும் உன்னத ஹரி பக்தனாக திகழ்ந்தான்.

தனது பரம வைரியான ஸ்ரீ ஹரியிடம், தனது மகன் இவ்வாறு பக்தி கொண்டு இருப்பதை , ஹிரண்யகசிபு வெறுத்தான். உடனே, அவன் பல ஆசிரியர்களைக் கொண்டு, நெடுங்காலம் லௌகீக விஷயங்களை பற்றி மீண்டும் மீண்டும் பாடம் சொல்லி, ப்ரஹ்லாதனின் மனதை மாற்ற முயற்சி செய்து பார்த்தான். ப்ரஹ்லாதன, அந்த போதனைகள் அனைத்தையும் வெறுத்து ஒதுக்கி, ஹரிபக்தி மட்டுமே எவருக்கும் மோக்ஷ சாதனம் என்று உறுதிபட நின்றான்.

ஒரு சமயம், ஹிரண்யகசிபு தனது மகன் ப்ரஹ்லாதனிடம் ' நீ படித்தவற்றுள் மிகவும் சிறந்த தத்துவம் எது ?' என்று வினவ,

பிரஹலாதன் ' விஷ்ணுபக்தியே மிக மிக உன்னத தத்துவம்' என்று பதிலை கேட்டவுடன், ஹிரண்யகசிபு , ஆசிரியர்களிடம் மிகுந்த கோபம் கொண்டு அவர்களை மிரட்டினான். ஆனால், ஆசியரியர்கள், அனைவரும் ' இது எங்கள் குற்றமல்ல.! பிறவியிலேயே தங்கள் புதல்வன் ப்ரஹ்லாதன் ஒரு ஹரிபக்தன் ! இதில் நாங்கள் செய்ய எதுவும் இல்லை என்று கூறிவிட்டனர். அதைக் கேட்ட ஹிரண்யகசிபு , தனது மகனைக் கொன்றொழிப்பது மட்டுமே ஒரே வழி எனத் தீர்மானித்து பல வழிகளில் முயற்சி செய்தான்.

பிரஹலாதன் சூலங்களால் குத்தப்பட்டான். யானைகளால் மிதிக்கப்பட்டான். பெரும் பாம்புகளால் கடிக்கப் பட்டான். பட்டினி போடப்பட்டான். விஷம் கலந்த உணவை தரப்பட்டான். மிகவும் உயர்ந்த மலை உச்சியில் இருந்து கீழே தள்ளப்பட்டான். ஆனால் என்னே ஆச்சர்யம்! இத்தகைய கொடுமைகள் எதுவும், தங்களது பக்தன் பிரகலாதனை ஒரு சிறிதும் பாதிக்கவில்லை.

செய்வதறியாது திகைத்த ஹிரண்யகசிபு தனது மகனை இறுக்கமான தளைகள் கொண்டு கட்டிப் போட்டான். அதனால் என்ன! அந்த நிலையிலும்,பிரஹலாதன், அங்கு இருந்த அசுர மற்றும் ஆசிரியர்களின் சிறார்களுக்கு , ஹரிநாம் மகத்துவத்தை புகழ்ந்து பிரசங்கித்தான்.

இவ்வாறு, அசுரச் சிறுவர்கள் அனைவரும் கூட ஹரி பக்தர்களாக மாறிவிட்டதை கண்டு , ஹிரண்யகசிபு, கடும் சினம் கொண்டு, ப்ரஹ்லாதனிடம், ' குலத்தைக் கெடுக்க வந்த கோடாரிக் காம்பே! உனக்கு உறுதுணையாக இருப்பவன் யார்? ' என்று கேட்க, பிரஹலாதன் சற்றும் அஞ்சாமல், ' தந்தையே! ஸ்ரீ ஹரி மட்டுமே எனக்கு உறுதுணை. எனக்கு மட்டுமல்ல! தங்களுக்கும் அவரே புகலிடம். அனைத்து ஜீவன்களுக்கும் ஹரி மட்டுமே துணை. ' என்று தெளிவாக பதிலளித்தான்.

இதை கேட்டு வெகுண்ட ஹிரண்யகசிபு ' அடே , பிரகலாதா! நீ உளறுவது போல அனைத்து உலகின் ஆத்மாவாக விளங்கும் உன் ஹரி எங்கே இருக்கிறான்? எங்கே இருக்கிறான்? ' என்று உரத்த குரலில், சப்தமிட்டு, தனது வாளினால் , எதிரே இருந்த ஒரு தூணை ஓங்கி வெட்டினான்.

ப்ரபஞ்சமெங்கும் பரவி நிற்கும், நாராயணா! அதன் பின் நிகழ்ந்த அகோர அற்புதத்தை, எளியேன் எவ்வாறு விவரிப்பேன்!

கருணா மூர்த்தியே ! குருவாயூரப்பா! நீயே என்னைக் காத்தருள வேண்டும்!

O Lord! Slayer of Madhu! When Hiranyaaksha was killed by Thee, incarnate as the Divine Boar, his brother named Hiranyakashipu was smitten with sorrow and anger. In the assembly of the Asuras he swore to kill Thee.

He quickly compelled Brahmaa to appear before him by performing severe austerities and made him give a boon that he would not be killed by god, man or beast etc. As a result of the boon he became arrogant and tormented the whole world which has Thee as its Lord. Disregarding Thee, he even snatched the heavens from Indra.

To kill Thee, he even went to Thy abode Vaikuntha. Thou disappeared from his gross vision and entered into his heart in a subtle form. Roaring aloud he searched for Thee in all the three worlds, and not finding Thee, he thought that Thou had fled in fear. Considering himself the winner he returned home

To him was born a son named Prahlaad. Even when he was in the womb, he had learnt the glory of devotion to Thee from sage Naarada. Though by birth he was an Asura, and just a child, O Bestower of Boons! He had intense love for Thee, and became the most outstanding example for all Thy devotees.

The evil minded Hiranyakashipu had Prahlaad taught by competent instructors for long, in matters of mundane state-craft because he saw signs of devotion to Thee and also the ridicule for the Asuras in his son. Prahaladha however rejected all their teachings as leading only to evil and grew up with his devotional zeal.

On being asked about what was the best that he had learned, Prahaladha answered that devotion to Thee was the greatest. Agitated at this, Hiranyakashipu was very angry with the teachers, but they told him that this was his son's natural inclination. At this he started planning ways to kill Prahlaad who was Thy great devotee, having taken refuge at Thy feet.

O All Pervading Supreme Being! What a wonder! Though he was pierced with tridents many times, trampled again and again by herds of huge elephants, bitten by great serpents, starved, poisoned and thrown down from the mountain peaks,he did not feel any suffering as his mind was completely fixed on Thee.

The very cruel father was frightened at this. At the advice of the teacher, Prahlaad was tied up with ropes at the teacher's house. But whenever the teacher was away, Prahlaad began to teach the Asura boys, who were with him, the doctrine of love for, and knowledge of Thee.

Hearing that all the boys were now singing Thy praise, Hiranyakashipu became blind with rage. He shouted at Prahlaad that the traitor that he was, who was his strength? That courageous boy replied that Lord Vishnu was his strength, in as much as He was also his (father's) strength and of the whole universe. Also that the three worlds were his manifestation indeed.

'O where is he? Where is he? The soul of all the worlds who is known as Hari?' - The son of Diti asking struck the pillar brandishing the sword. O Vishnu! O Lord! What happened then I am unable to describe immediately. O All Merciful! O All pervading One! O resident of Guruvaayur! Deign to make me whole.

हिरण्याक्षे पोत्रिप्रवरवपुषा देव भवता
हते शोकक्रोधग्लपितधृतिरेतस्य सहज: ।
हिरण्यप्रारम्भ: कशिपुरमरारातिसदसि
प्रतिज्ञमातेने तव किल वधार्थं मधुरिपो ॥१॥

विधातारं घोरं स खलु तपसित्वा नचिरत:
पुर: साक्षात्कुर्वन् सुरनरमृगाद्यैरनिधनम् ।
वरं लब्ध्वा दृप्तो जगदिह भवन्नायकमिदं
परिक्षुन्दन्निन्द्रादहरत दिवं त्वामगणयन् ॥२॥

निहन्तुं त्वां भूयस्तव पदमवाप्तस्य च रिपो-
र्बहिर्दृष्टेरन्तर्दधिथ हृदये सूक्ष्मवपुषा ।
नदन्नुच्चैस्तत्राप्यखिलभुवनान्ते च मृगयन्
भिया यातं मत्वा स खलु जितकाशी निववृते ॥३॥

ततोऽस्य प्रह्लाद: समजनि सुतो गर्भवसतौ
मुनेर्वीणापाणेरधिगतभवद्भक्तिमहिमा ।
स वै जात्या दैत्य: शिशुरपि समेत्य त्वयि रतिं
गतस्त्वद्भक्तानां वरद परमोदाहरणताम् ॥४॥

सुरारीणां हास्यं तव चरणदास्यं निजसुते
स दृष्ट्वा दुष्टात्मा गुरुभिरशिशिक्षच्चिरममुम् ।
गुरुप्रोक्तं चासाविदमिदमभद्राय दृढमि-
त्यपाकुर्वन् सर्वं तव चरणभक्त्यैव ववृधे ॥ ५ ॥

अधीतेषु श्रेष्ठं किमिति परिपृष्टेऽथ तनये
भवद्भक्तिं वर्यामभिगदति पर्याकुलधृति: ।
गुरुभ्यो रोषित्वा सहजमतिरस्येत्यभिविदन्
वधोपायानस्मिन् व्यतनुत भवत्पादशरणे ॥६॥

स शूलैराविद्ध: सुबहु मथितो दिग्गजगणै-
र्महासर्पैर्दष्टोऽप्यनशनगराहारविधुत: ।
गिरीन्द्रवक्षिप्तोऽप्यहह! परमात्मन्नयि विभो
त्वयि न्यस्तात्मत्वात् किमपि न निपीडामभजत ॥७॥

तत: शङ्काविष्ट: स पुनरतिदुष्टोऽस्य जनको
गुरूक्त्या तद्गेहे किल वरुणपाशैस्तमरुणत् ।
गुरोश्चासान्निध्ये स पुनरनुगान् दैत्यतनयान्
भवद्भक्तेस्तत्त्वं परममपि विज्ञानमशिषत् ॥८॥

पिता शृण्वन् बालप्रकरमखिलं त्वत्स्तुतिपरं
रुषान्ध: प्राहैनं कुलहतक कस्ते बलमिति ।
बलं मे वैकुण्ठस्तव च जगतां चापि स बलं
स एव त्रैलोक्यं सकलमिति धीरोऽयमगदीत् ॥९॥

अरे क्वासौ क्वासौ सकलजगदात्मा हरिरिति
प्रभिन्ते स्म स्तंभं चलितकरवालो दितिसुत: ।
अत: पश्चाद्विष्णो न हि वदितुमीशोऽस्मि सहसा
कृपात्मन् विश्वात्मन् पवनपुरवासिन् मृडय माम् ॥१०॥
